Lane leaves Rocky Top with options narrowed
It's been a crazy last few days for Daytona Beach, Fla., running back Marlin Lane. Until recently, Lane was committed to going to Clemson but after a reported falling away from the Tigers' side he's looking at other options. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound tailback visited Miami last weekend and was in Knoxville for an official this weekend.
He had nothing but positive things to say about the visit on his way home Sunday afternoon.
"I loved it up there. It was really nice and I liked the coaches and the players," Lane said.
One of the more attractive things to Lane that he saw while on his trip was the relationship between coaches and players
"The coaches just have that bond with the players that I haven't seen before," Lane said.
Another part that stood out about his trip was the coaches telling him there was an urgent need at his position. That become an even clearer reality after running back David Oku decided to leave the Vols' football program last week.
"They've told me how bad they need a running back now," Lane said
That should help the Vols out as he's looking at two main things when it comes settling on college, a decision Lane will let known on signing day.
"(It will come down to) which ever one fits me better and where I have a chance to start at. All I need is one chance," Lane said.
Although Lane has visited Miami, Auburn and Purdue, he said his decision will come down to Tennessee and Florida State, which he's visiting next weekend.
Rivals.com ranks Lane as the No. 55 overall player in the country and the eighth-best running back in the nation.
