Devall Favors Playing a Hybrid Role
It used to be a possibility but the trend is no longer able to be ignored, Oklahoma will be employing more and more of their 3-man front for the foreseeable future. Many had thought that it was a function of need last year when the Sooners were heavy on talented linebackers and short on healthy defensive linemen. However, listening to Bastrop, La. linebacker/defensive end Denzel Devall it's clear they are recruiting players to play the hybrid 'Jack' position moving forward.
The coach who has been selling the 6-foot-2, 236-pound prospect on the idea of playing is none other than Sooner defensive coordinator Brent Venables.
"Well me and coach Venables were talking for about a week or stuff on Facebook and he offered me towards the end of the week for the hybrid position. That's a plus, I like that role," Devall said. "He mentioned they are recruiting new guys for the spot. He said they looked at me on film and said right off the bat I was a hybrid and that I was a pretty unique player. I know they had been running the 4-3, but a lot of teams are changing to the 3-4."
