Wilcox sees strides, stressing details
As Tennessee prepares to wrap up spring practice there's a general sense around the program that the Vols are putting the necessary building blocks in place to take some large steps in the future. Just how far those steps might carry the Vols this fall is a matter of plenty of debate, and will hinge on several factors. One of those factors will be how a young defense develops in the coming months.
It's worth noting that for the first time in three years the program completed back-to-back spring practices with the essentially the same staff in place. That continuity is pivotal and while defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox is quick to stress that his side of the ball is a work in progress, he's at least certain that strides are being made in the right direction.
"One conclusion I draw is that we still have a lot of work to do," Wilcox answered quickly when asked what he was taking from the spring. "We've definitely improved up to this point but we have no room to take any steps backwards. I think we've had some guys who have shown up but as a whole we still have a ways to go before we're playing the way we want to play.
