Pop Culture: Kicking it David Ricky-style
John Brice
VolQuest.com Da'Rick Rogers as a punter? No, but Rogers knows what could make him punt the football if he could do so without punishment.
Tennessee's precocious sophomore wideout, omnipresent faux mohawk adorning his head, also wants to let you know he's more than merely a football player --- and specifically that he's sharp and not just in running routes. Not that Rogers is anything less than sharp on the field this season; he's already gathered 15 passes from Tyler Bray, scored three touchdowns and amassed 200 yards in the process. The sophomore from Calhoun, Ga., is averaging another 25 yards on four kickoff returns as well.
Among the Vols' most personable players, Rogers takes a brief from football questions for a rapid fire session with VolQuest.com.
Following up last week's epic Daniel Hood installment, Rogers faces a quick barrage of questions in this week's edition of "Pop Culture."
VOLQUEST: Standard easy one. What's something about you that people don't know?
DA'RICK ROGERS: I'm a really smart guy. An extremely smart guy. A lot of people don't know that about me until they meet me and conversate with me. But I'm a really smart guy. I would say so.
VQ: Any other hidden skills that we've not seen yet?
DR: I guess I'm a jokester. I like to joke around the entire time. I know when to be serious, but having fun is something that I thrive on. I can't really do much without having fun.
VQ: If you could celebrate in the end zone without fear of punishment, what would your end zone celebration be like? What would it consist of?
DR: Dunk the field goal post. Run through the tunnel after you score. Throw the ball right in the stands. Punt the ball right in the stands. And might get a little Gator chomp. All those kinds of things. Anything to get the fans going.
VQ: Would you have a name for it? Would you call it the David Ricky?
DR: Yeah, I would call it the 'David Ricky.' I like that. I would call it the 'David Ricky.' That's what I would call it.
VQ: What's your most embarrassing moment?
DR: Oh man, I don't know. I'm just so goofy and just a funny person, I never really get embarrassed. If you can't laugh at yourself, you can't laugh at anybody.
VQ: What's playing in your iPod right now?
DR: Hmm. Currency. Tha Carter IV (from Lil Wayne). Watch the Throne with Jay-Z and Kanye West.
VQ: Lastly, what's your favorite tattoo and then I'm done?
DR: Um, probably the one on my chest, 'My Brother's Keeper.' It just means I'm going to keep anybody that I call my brother safe. I got it about two years ago.
