Second half D dooms Vols

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Mired in the midst of a four-game losing streak during the non-conference portion of the schedule, it's tough to find many reasons for optimism right now when you look at the Vols' basketball team. That sentiment is certainly true for fans, but it might also apply to new head coach Cuonzo Martin as well.

Anyone paying even the slightest bit of attention to the basketball program knew that Martin was walking into a tough spot, especially as it pertained to the outlook for 2011-12. But even the most hardcore pessimists probably had a hard time picturing Tennessee picking up its sixth loss more than a week before Christmas.

The Vols' players certainly didn't expect to be here, and at least according to Dwight Miller, the plan on doing something about it.

"We didn't expect to be here, but it's a speed-bump in the road. We have to overcome it. We can't afford to let it turn into a mountain. We've got to keep it to a speed bump and move on," Miller said.
