Vols go ice cold in NOLA
New Orleans -- Tennessee has hung its hat on defense all season long, and to hugely positive results. In terms of scoring defense, this year's Tennessee team turned in the best performance for a season of any Volunteer squad in the shot-clock era. But in order to stick around for the weekend portion of the SEC tournament, the Vols needed to hit some shots, and in that area, they came up well-short against Ole Miss on Friday night.
With an NCAA bid potentially at stake the Vols turned in their worst shooting night of the season, connecting on just 18-of-64 field goal attempts (28.1%)
Tennessee has had its share of problems with zone defenses off-and-on all season long, and Ole Miss exploited that chink in their armor in a huge way.
That showed up in all kinds of different ways, but most clearly in the fact that Tennessee attempted 34 three-pointers in the game, a huge number for a team that most definitely is at its best when the ball gets pounded inside with regularity.
