Motivation not a problem for Vols
Though Tennessee didn't quite manage to cap a sterling second half of the season with an NCAA tournament bid, the Vols do have an excellent chance at extending their season by several games as a one-seed in the NIT. That chance starts tonight with a visit from Savannah State.
Tip-off for tonight's contest is at 8 p.m., the game will be televised on ESPNU.
The concern for many on the Tennessee side, as is often the case for teams deemed 'near-misses' for the NCAA, is what kind of intensity they'll bring to what is essentially a consolation tournament.
On Monday, as they prepared to start a journey they hope ends New York City and Madison Square Garden in two weeks, the Vols didn't sound like they were lacking for motivation.
"I'm definitely glad we get to play some more basketball. Just getting the chance to do that is a good thing at this time of year. This team is excited to keep playing," Trae Golden said.
