2014 in-state standout talks Vol offer

In the world of football recruiting, projecting too far down the road is often a dangerous business, but in the case of Montgomery Bell Academy lineman prospect Alex Bars, programs are starting to come to some agreement on his potential. Tennessee made a strong declaration of what the Vols think about Bars' potential this weekend, extending the rising junior a scholarship offer after seeing him perform in the Vols' one-day linemen camp on Saturday.

Bars (6-foot-6, 255 pounds) has been hearing with regularity from most of the SEC since the spring evaluation period, but Tennessee is the first among those programs to step in with a firm offer, a move that Bars was excited by.
Bars had likely better get used to dealing with that. Saturday's offer was the first of his recruitment. Chances on it being his last are exceedingly slim. The other programs he's been receiving heavy early interest from are Auburn, Kentucky, Alabama, Vanderbilt, Michigan and Penn State.

He's light enough on his feet to have some project him as a defensive lineman at the next level, but he seemed to think following camp that the Tennessee coaches were most impressed by his skills at offensive tackle.
