Golden, Vols like busy offseason
Cuonzo Martin and his basketball team are scant days away from departing for a tour of Italy that should give the Vols a jump-start on their preparations for the 2012-13 season. One of the bonuses of the trip--in addition to the exhibition games they'll play overseas--is the 10 practices the NCAA allots for preparation.
Tennessee has already used a couple of those practice dates, and they'll jump back onto the practice court this week in a final push to get ready for the trip.
That practice time--along with an NCAA rule change that allowed coaches to spend two hours per week with their team in the summer--has lent some continuity to this offseason that simply hasn't been there in the past.
For those who might wonder if the additional practice time doesn't make the offseason into more of a grind than the players might like, Golden has a firm answer.
