The day after

Tennessee kicked off 2012 in good fashion Friday night with the 35-21 win over NC State. The Vols were by no means perfect and they have plenty to work on moving forward. But emotionally and mentally the Vols were complete. They handled adversity and the finished the game as some new faces emerged to help the Big Orange go to 1-0. We look back at the win with our Day After feature.

HOT AND COLD

HOT

Pass defense (2nd half)- After multiple busts in the first half down the middle of the football field, the Vol defensive backs cranked it up. Secondary members credited the defensive staff for adjustments and they worked. In the first two quarters, Wolfpack quarterback Mike Glennon was 13 of 23 for 208 yards. In the second half he was 14 of 25 but for just 80 yards and most of that came on the final garbage time drive. And the defense had 3 interceptions.

Curt Maggitt- The new aggressive style certainly fits Maggitt's game. He had 5 tackles, including a sack and a forced fumble that led to the safety

CP - He's can officially now just be CP after his opening night in college football. Patterson still has tons to learn in terms of the offense and playing every down, etc, etc. But speed never had a bad day and Patterson had a phenomenal night. It wasn't just his speed. He caught the ball well and showed no signs of having adjustment issues to this level of play. In other words, he's a freak.
