Role players shine at receiver
The talk about Tennessee's receivers this year has mostly centered around juniors Justin Hunter and Cordarrelle Patterson, and more and more lately, senior Zach Rogers as well. But, Tennessee wouldn't have been in a position to tie or beat South Carolina on it's second-to-last drive if it wasn't for some of the more unheralded players on the Vols' roster.
Vincent Dallas had his best day as a Vol grabbing three catches for 78 yards and touchdown. Jacob Carter also had a crucial catch on Tennessee's opening touchdown drive.
Even freshman, do-it-all receiver, Alton 'Pig' Howard got into the act with two catches for 15 yards and a touchdown throw to Mychal Rivera out of the Wildcat formation.
"I look back on the last game and I think that is the most pleasing part of the game. We had several players that wouldn't be called starters who stepped up and made plays," offensive coordinator Jim Chaney said Wednesday after practice. "I think Alex Bullard stepped in and played a very nice game. Pig (Howard) made plays. Jacob (Carter) made plays. Vincent (Dallas) made plays. They are out there making plays. I think they are enjoying playing football and we are happy about that."
