Vandy-Vols rivalry growing

When Robert Neyland was promoted from an assistant coach to head coach in 1926 University of Tennessee Dean Nathan W. Daugherty charged his new head coach to, "even the score with Vanderbilt."

At that time the 'score' against Vanderbilt was two wins, 18 losses and three ties. He more than earned his pay if that was the main objective. In the 82 games since Neyland took over the Vols are 71-9-2 against the Commodores, with just one win, 2005, in the past 29 meetings.
