Vols hang tough but stumble late
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Tennessee (8-7, 0-3) put together what might have been its best collective effort in the last month on Tuesday night, but that still wasn't enough to get over the hump in Rupp Arena as Kentucky (11-5, 2-1) extended the Vols current losing streak to four with a 75-65.
Tennessee got off to exactly the kind of start an underdog visitor needs in Rupp. The Vols didn't give the home crowd a chance to explode in the early going by taking care of the ball early on, keeping Kentucky out of transition and making life tough on the 'Cats in their halfcourt offense.
Using that basic strategy, and some improved offensive execution early, the Vols hung around all night, making life uncomfortable for the 'Cats, but just didn't have enough in the tank to get over the hump.
