Murfreesboro junior athlete Emmanuel Smith picked up what is likely the first of many offers last week when the home state Vols made the initial offer to the Oakland High School standout.

At 6-foot-2, 200-pounds, Smith plays numerous positions for his high school team including quarterback, safety among others. Tennessee recently took notice of his ability and were able to talk to him and pass out the offer.

"One of my coaches told me to call coach Jones after school on a half day so I could speak to the coaching staff and he offered me," Smith said.

While Smith had been talking to numerous colleges, he admitted he was somewhat surprised about the timing of the offer.
