With A.J. Johnson the only returning starting linebacker able to participate in spring practice, the Tennessee coaching staff decided to move Brent Brewer from safety to linebacker in attempt to have more experience and explosiveness on the second level.

After Day One on the practice field, head coach Butch Jones said Brewer's transition to linebacker is a work in progress like much of Team 117, but he has a number of good attributes for the position.
