Vols rise to the occasion

Tennessee (19-11, 11-7) took the court today with one last chance to make a bold statement to the NCAA selection committee against Missouri (22-9, 11-7). That statement ended up being a dramatic 64-62, secured by some clutch play down the stretch.

It's an overused phrase, but the contest was a 'must-win' game for Tennessee as it pertains to making the NCAA Tournament. Instead of wilting under the pressure, the Vols rose to the occasion just as they did two weeks ago against Florida in a similar situation.

Whether this win was enough to punch their ticket for the Big Dance remains to be seen, but Cuonzo Martin had no reservations in sharing his views on the topic.

"I think we're an NCAA Tournament team. There are 68 teams and I think we're one of them. I think the job is done and now the next phase for us is to compete in the tough SEC tournament in Nashville," Martin said unequivocally.
