Flowers blossoming in early season

MADISON, Wis. - Thank you, Michael Flowers.

Thank you, Michael Flowers, because of your victory-saving layup with less than 11 seconds remaining in regulation. It tied the game at 65 and forced overtime, where the 11th-ranked Wisconsin Badgers went on to defeat Winthrop, 82-79, here Monday night.

Not to mention leading the Badgers, along with Alando Tucker, with a career-high 21 points. Brian Butch added 17 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

"He's just an opportunistic young man," head coach Bo Ryan said of Flowers, who also had four rebounds, five assists and two steals. "He plays hard and he plays smart. He's improved every year and we think he's got a lot more improvement coming. Johnny on the spot."
