September 12, 2013Thursday, Tennessee officials spent the morning visiting with defensive tackle Maurice Couch and the afternoon talking with the NCAA in response to a Yahoo sports report on Wednesday with evidence of Couch receiving cash from a "runner" of an agent.
According to the Yahoo sports report, Couch received $1,350 dollars from former Alabama defensive lineman Luther Davis who was working as a runner for financial advisors/agents.
In his weekly radio appearance on Nashville sportstalk station 104.5 the Zone, Vol head coach Butch Jones when asked about Couch stated that the University has declared the defensive tackle ineligible for Saturday's game with second ranked Oregon. Tennessee officials also confirmed the ruling to Volquest as well.
Jones said that the University's compliance department is working through all the details of Couch's situation.
It's unclear at this point as to when or if Couch can restore his eligibility.
