October 9, 2013Tennessee conducted its afternoon work Wednesday inside Neyland Stadium, returning to the Volunteers' Saturday home for the first time since Saturday's heartbreaking loss against Georgia.
Head coach Butch Jones was relentless in his challenging of players, again launching them into more bull-ring work where Cody Blanc 'beasted' Lemond Johnson, prompting Jones to declare that Blanc had taken Johnson's soul.
Conspicuously absent from the practice field were reserve offensive lineman Alan Posey and backup slot receiver/return man Vincent Dallas. Both players are examining their futures with the program, and at this point in time, Posey is not expected to rejoin the Vols.
The Vols worked heavily on special teams and also did some three-on-two individual drills, as well as working pass skeleton and some defensive sets at goal line.
Tennessee will have some work on Thursday afternoon before it breaks for its first of two open dates this season. The Vols are one of the last four teams in the SEC to get their first open date.
Riyahd Jones worked extensively as he attempts to be a contributor in the second half of the season after recovering from an extremely serious circulation condition in his leg. A.J. Branisel, Rajion Neal and just a handful of others were in green jerseys, while several other Vols swapped jersey numbers. Justin King wore Jones' number 21 while Curt Maggitt, who seemingly remains headed for a redshirt, donned Drae Bowles' 7 jersey.
