The Washington State University football team has had a string of bad news lately with off-the-field issues, but that streak of negativity was broken this week when redshirt senior defensive lineman Matt Mullennix was granted a sixth season of eligibility by the NCAA.

The defensive lineman from Spangle, who has already graduated, suffered a season-ending knee injury in 2004 and then suffered another knee injury prior to the 2006 season that prevented him from playing that year.

Mullennix has played in 15 games for Wazzu and gathered 19 total tackles with four tackles-for-loss and three sacks.

WSU opens their season against Oklahoma State on August 30 at Qwest Field in Seattle.
