Scouting Reports

Strengths: Dean was one of the best shooters in the NCAA as a junior, and played a huge role in helping his team make the Final Four. His release is super quick, his mechanics are text-book, and his range extends past the NBA 3-point line. He's also a terrific free-throw shooter. He is tough as nails both mentally and physically. He's an unselfish player who understands his role. He is fundamentally sound on defense and gets by largely on his excellent effort level.

Weaknesses: Dean proved this year that he is not a point guard and probably not even a combo guard. He is undersized shooting guard whose game deteriorates significantly when being asked to run a half-court offense and create things for teammates off the dribble. His ball-handling skills are very average, as are both his first step and overall explosiveness. He is a less efficient shooter when asked to create shots and shoot off the dribble.

Outlook: Once considered a likely second-round pick, Dean's stock has fallen off the map. He further worsened his status when he turned down an invite to the all-seniors NBA pre-draft camp in Portsmouth. Dean will be hoping for an invite to Orlando, and will need to put on a show to get his stock back to where it once was.
