BIO NOTES

2006 (Sophomore): McFadden had an awesome spring, lining up at tailback and even wide receiver for the Razorbacks. He made several big plays and looked poised to have a moster summer and fall. However, in an off-the-field incident, McFadden dislocated the distal IP joint in his left big toe a week before practice started and was lost for all of fall camp. He had a pin that was insterted into his toe and a boot removed 13 days before the Sept. 2 season opener against Southern Cal. He was expected to miss the game and possibly two more, but he was ready to go and dressed out, carrying nine times for 42 yards at about 80 percent. He continued to improve, and as Arkansas went on a 10-game winning streak, McFadden's popularity increased among Heisman voters. The sophomore finished second in the Heisman voting and became the first sophomore ever to win the Doak Walker Award for being the nation's best running back. He was a consensus first-team All-America selection after rushing for 1,647 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also passed for 3 touchdowns, caught 1 touchdown and returned a kickoff for a touchdown. He is the centerpiece of a formation known as the 'Wildcat,' where he lines up at quarterback in a sort of variation of the single wing. McFadden enters the 2007 season as the Heisman Trophy frontrunner and the projected No. 1 pick in next April's NFL Draft.

2005 (Freshman): During his first summer of practices, McFadden competed with fellow true freshmen Felix Jones and Michael Smith to see who might play sooner. McFadden took over the starting job in the third game of the season against Alabama, and he earned SEC freshman of the week honors against Auburn and Georgia. He made consecutive starts against Alabama, Louisiana-Monroe, Auburn, Georgia, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and LSU. He exploded onto the national scene at No. 4 Georgia when he rushed for 190 yards and 2 touchdowns on 31 carries. For his efforts in the 23-20 loss, he was named Rivals.com National Freshman of the Week. He finished as the school's all-time leader in rushing yards by a freshman with 176 carries for 1,113 yards (6.3 yards per carry) and 11 touchdowns, despite a limited role early. At the end of the season, he was named First-Team Freshman All-America by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), College Football News, ESPN, Rivals.com and the Sporting News. Pro Football Weekly named him Honorable Mention All-America. The Associated Press named him First-Team All-SEC and Freshman of the Year. SEC Coaches named him First-Team All-SEC and Freshman of the Year. College Football News named him SEC Freshman of the Year and All-SEC. ESPN.com named him SEC Newcomer of the Year and All-SEC.

Personal: McFadden committed to Arkansas in early April, and he took his official visit to 'the hill' on Jan. 21. He was still only 17 years old when the Hogs started fall camp. McFadden blew away scouts at the Atlanta NIKE Training Camp in May and justified his ranking with a stellar season and 4.3-second 40-yard dash clocking after 4.3-second 40-yard dash clocking. He is the highest ranked Arkansan by Rivals.com since Shawn Andrews in 2001, drafted No. 16 overall in the latest NFL Draft, at the time. Rivals.com regards McFadden as one of only 28 five-star prospects, as the No. 2 'athlete' prospect and as the No. 23 overall prospect in the country. As a senior, he rushed for 1,965 yards and 27 touchdowns (10.7 yards per carry). He led a Hornets team that jumped up in classification and was picked to finish at the bottom of its conference to a 9-3 record and second-round berth in the playoffs. He played running back, quarterback and safety for Oak Grove, and he is the gem of the 2005 Arkansas class. He chose Arkansas over scholarship offers from Tennessee and Alabama.
