Parker to transfer

Tennessee guard Kwe Parker has asked for and been granted a release from the Vols’ program according to multiple sources.

The 6-foot-0 freshman from Fayetteville, N.C. appeared in 26 games this past season. He averaged 1.0 ppg in eight minutes of action.

An athletic combo guard, Parker made one start for the Vols this season.

This roster move would appear to give the Vols some much needed flexibility. With three current recruits in the 2017 class, Tennessee was full from a numbers standpoint prior to Parker’s decision.

Now the Vols have one open scholarship available. The staff could elect to use that spot in the upcoming late signing period or carry it over into the 2018 class, where numbers are also going to be a concern.

Tennessee’s staff has been on the road this week evaluating 2017 and 2018 prospects making it safe to say that this news probably didn’t catch Barnes & Co. off guard.
