Player notes from the Border Battle

The Breakdown Basketball publication brought several talented players from Wisconsin and Minnesota to Tartan High School for the Border Battle. Marquette commits Trevor Mbakwe and Scott Christopherson, Minnetonka junior Andy Burns, Matt Hackl of Seymour and Jeronne Maymon of Madison all played at a high level.

Marquette commit and St. Bernards power forward Trevor Mbakwe's first three shot attempts were mid-range jumpshots and he made two of them as his shooting touch has really took a solid step forward. He looks to be very comfortable shooting now in his senior season and its obvious that he has been getting many mid-range shooting reps in practice. In the second half the 6-foot-7, 225 pound Mbakwe hit a jumper and then scored on two baseline drive dunks afterwards as the opposing defender moved up to defend the possible jumper that Trevor made three times previously.

Known for his explosiveness, Trevor ran at a Randolph player and blocked a 14-foot jumper hitting it almost at the 11-foot range in the air. His long arms made shooting a difficult chore the entire game for Randolph. Sticking with defense, Trevor darted into a passing lane for a steal, passed to a teammate and then received the ball back for an alley-opp as he dunked over his opponent. Trevor also beat a 6-foot-6 defender off the dribble from the elbow with a quick dribble-drive. In all Trevor scored 28 points including five dunks, three jumpers and four of five from the foul line.
