Memphis tight end is a sleeper no longer

It wasn't long ago that Memphis (Tenn.) Central tight end Cameron Clear was a virtual unknown. That has quickly changed this spring. All it has taken is college coaches getting there eyes on him.

At 6-foot-6, 265-pounds, there aren't many tight ends that have a more imposing physical presence. However, Clear also has soft wide receiver hands. As coaches have been able to visit and see those attributes first hand, the offers have begun filing in.

"I picked up offers from Tennessee, Louisville, Ole Miss and Mississippi State this spring," Clear said. "Everybody's been coming through, Louisville came, Kentucky came, Mississippi State, Alabama, Tennessee and Vanderbilt. It just motivates me to work harder."

Clear's recent offers add to the offers he already had from Memphis, Duke and Alabama. Among his offers, the in-state program of Tennessee is a standout.

"That was an important offer to me because it was one that I was looking forward to," he said. "I've been a fan growing up and I had a few family members that went to Tennessee."

Though Memphis is his home-state team, Ole Miss is actually that is closer geographically and is another offer that interestes him.

"I like them," he said of Ole Miss. "I was excited about that one because they were recruiting me from the beginning of the year and I had heard a lot from them, then out of nowhere the offer just came."

Two more big offers could be close as well. Both Florida and Auburn have shown significant interest and have discussed potential offers in the near future.

This summer, Clear hopes to continue to impress coaches on the camp circuit. As he continues to work out, Clear plans to attend at least two camps with both Duke and Tennessee camps scheduled this June.
