Rebels trying to line up visits from L.A. standouts

John White isn't sure if he's visiting Ole Miss this weekend or not.

His teammate at Los Angeles' Harbor Community College, safety Byron Moore, said White will be in Oxford. Further, the former Southern Cal signee said he plans to accompany his running back friend on the trip.

"I met with (Ole Miss wide receivers) Coach (Ron) Dickerson (Jr.) last week and we had a good meeting," Moore said. "I want to go check it out."

Moore, a 6-foot-1, 205-pounder, visited Tennessee this past weekend. He'll visit Ohio State on Dec. 17 and he has January visits planned to both Oregon State and Washington. UCLA is in the mix, as is LSU. In fact, the Tigers, Moore said, are likely to steal the official visit allotted to Oregon State or Washington.

"Everybody is even," Moore said. "I'm trying to see where the best fit would be. I want to go somewhere where I'd have the opportunity to start. I want to get on the field. …Everybody wants to win. There'd be no reason to play the game if you didn't want to win. I also want a school that produces guys at my position and sends them to the league. I want to play at a school that sends guys to the NFL and for a position coach who has produced guys at my position."

Moore said location won't matter.

"I've read on the Internet where people say I've got to stay on the West Coast," Moore said. "That's not true."

Moore said his year at Southern Cal taught him college football is "a business. The best will play. At the same time, it's fun."

One advantage Ole Miss, Tennessee and LSU may have, Moore admitted, is conference affiliation. Moore has been watching the Southeastern Conference this season, and the league has caught his eye.

"Right now, I've got a good feeling about the SEC," Moore said. "It stands out a lot for me right now. In the SEC, you play teams like Georgia, Florida and Alabama every week. Most teams play just one of those type teams in a season. In that league, you play them every week. You're playing the best competition, so you know how you stack up."

White, meanwhile, confirmed a report from earlier Monday and said he has narrowed his top choices to Utah and Purdue. However, Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt has set up a visit with White (and presumably with Moore) Wednesday in Los Angeles, White said.

"They're telling me I could come in and play," White said of the Rebels' sales pitch. "I don't know yet. I'll have to see."
