MacLean talks Spartan visit

One of the top prospects in the state of Michigan for the class of 2013 is linebacker/defensive end Luke MacLean of Grand Blanc High School. MacLean was at Spartan Stadium on Saturday to see Michigan State defeat Michigan 28-14. We spoke with him and got the latest on his recruitment.

The 6-foot-4, 235-pound MacLean is having a strong junior campaign at Grand Blanc High School. Last Friday night the Bobcats defeated Walled lake Western High School by a score of 23-21 to improve to 6-2 and secure a playoff berth. The week before Grand Blanc defeated Hartland High School by a score of 28-6 to clinch the Kensington Lakes Activities Association-West Championship.

MacLean traveled to East Lansing on Saturday morning to see the big game and he talked with us about his thoughts on the contest and the atmosphere.

"It was a great game with a really strong defensive showing by the Spartans," he said. "The atmosphere was extremely loud and hostile to Michigan. It was definitely a great game to see."

MacLean was able to see first-hand just how the Spartans coaches would like to use him if he does end up in Green and White. Maclean projects be a defensive end that excels in pass rush situations. He would be a player in the mold of a Marcus Rush type. Rush is a 254-pound defensive end that has a relentless motor.

The Michigan State staff has been in contact as much as is allowed by NCAA regulations and we asked what type of feedback he is getting from the Spartan coaches and if they have talked about possibly offering him a scholarship at some point.

"I was able to talk with Coach Narduzzi, Coach Tressel, and Head Coach Dantonio," MacLean stated. "All of them said that they had recently watched my first 3 game highlight film and were very impressed. Coach Dantonio invited me back this weekend so he and I could talk more. I am hoping to hear some good things this weekend."

MacLean currently has a scholarship offer from the University of Buffalo. He is getting heavy interest from Michigan State, Michigan and Notre Dame. The Spartans have not offered many players from the class of 2013, but MacLean is obviously someone on the short list of potential scholarship prospect.

A visit to East Lansing this weekend will mark the third time Maclean will have been on campus this fall. He was at the Florida Atlantic game back in September. MacLean has also attended games at the University of Michigan and Notre Dame.

SpartanMag.com will continue to follow the recruitment of this top recruiting prospect for the class of 2013. Under Mark Dantonio Michigan State has built one of the best defenses in the nation. Adding a player with the skill set of MacLean could certainly help keep the defense at championship level.
