Georgia DE pulls down offer from the Black Knights
Army's continued pursuit of top tier defensive talent has taken them to the Southeast region of the country. This is where the coaching staff was able to let defensive end, Shawanye Lawrence know how interested they are in his talents.
Lawrence is already an impressive physical specimen and clearly that will be refined even more at the colligate level as 6-foot-4, 245 pounder is being courted more at defensive end.
"Yes, colleges are looking at me strictly as a defensive," shared Lawrence, who talked about the latest school to show interest. "Army was my most recent offer. Coach Holmes (Clarence) is recruiting me there. He came to my school one day and my head coach just told me to keep an eye out for my phone because West Point (aka Army) would be calling me, probably with an offer. And sure enough they had one for me."
So, what was Lawrence's initial reaction upon receiving his latest offer? "I then spoke to my parents and they told me to really consider it because it's a great school and big decision," adds the prospect out of McDonough (Ga) Eagle's Landing High School, who appears to be adhering to his gut feeling, along with his parent's advice.
"I am going to take a visit to West Point in December or January. I have a strong interest in Army and started to do a lot of research on West Point. I want to make sure that it's a fit for me."
Although the Black Knights' offer was not his first, it was the first Division I offer. "It felt real good," declared Lawrence. "Coach Holmes had called me initially and told me that he would have an offer for me soon, because he looked at my film and he really liked it. A week later he called me and said they had an offer ... I was just shocked and thanked him."
Despite Eagle's Landing coming off of a 1-9 this season, remains a player on a mission every time he straps up his helmet. "My top two players are Justin Pierce Paul and Ray Lewis, and like them, whenever I step out onto the field I just know it's all business from there," shares Lawrence. "I know it's about having fun, but I try to tell everybody that we have a job to do and I just focus on giving 110% every play. Just go out there and do the job."
