Vols give 'Cats historic beat down
Everyone once in a while a day comes along where everything just goes perfectly. Cuonzo Martin and his Tennessee basketball team had one of those days. The 88-58 win was the largest margin of victory in the 216 game history of the rivalry and the third win in a row for the Vols.
Playing without freshman sensation Nerlens Noel, who was lost for the season this week with a torn ACL, Kentucky was virtually unrecognizable on the Thompson-Boling Arena court. The only thing that looked familiar were the blue uniforms as Tennessee grabbed control of the game with both hands, put a death grip on it and never came close letting go.
"I thought our guys did a good job of competing from start to finish, just a tremendous effort from both ends of the floor. I think in the last three games this is the Tennessee team I am accustomed to seeing, people are really playing hard," Martin said after what certainly ranks as one of the biggest wins of his his Tennessee career.
