Martin talks signing class

Tennessee officially welcomed four new basketball signees into the family on Thursday night, closing out a drama free early signing period with a class that meets some immediate needs for Cuonzo Martin and his Vols.

The four man class consists of pure point guard in Larry Austin, a bouncy big man in Phil Cofer, a classic back-to-the-basket big man in CJ Turman and a versatile wing in Jordan Cornish.

Each signee had a similar path to Knoxville at least as far as their recruitment went. Each of the four committed before the fall even rolled around and no one in the group even so much as took a visit to another school, let alone seemed to seriously consider looking elsewhere after committing.

Cornish committed to Tennessee back in May, Cofer followed shortly thereafter in June while Austin and Turman jumped on board in August.

The fact that no one in the class showed any inclination to look elsewhere didn't surprise Martin in the least. Evaluating character is as much a part of the recruiting process as evaluating talent for the Vols' head coach, and in the four newest Vols, he saw the kind of attitude and work ethic he wants to build his program around.
