Vols heating up on cusp of league play

Tennessee (9-4) jumps into SEC play this week, traveling to face LSU (9-3) on Tuesday night in the league opener for both teams. The Vols have been up-and-down during the non-conference portion of the schedule, but are coming off three of their best offensive performances of the season.

Since falling at home 65-58 to NC State on Dec. 18 Tennessee has won three straight, over Virginia, Morehead State and Tusculum. In each of the victories since that loss, Tennessee has shown some offensive firepower that had previously been missing.

The Vols have been on fire offensively, shooting a collective 52% from the floor as a team and a nearly unthinkable 53% from three-point range. Prior to that three game stretch the Vols had been shooting just over 30% for the season from three-point range.

All preseason the players themselves, as well as Cuonzo Martin, felt that this would be a capable offensive basketball team. A little less than half way through the season, those sentiments are starting to look accurate.
