SEC ruling does Vols no favors

Tennessee got some bad news on the transfer front this week with word coming down that the SEC had denied a graduate transfer waiver to center Eric McKnight, a player who figured prominently in the Vols' plans for the upcoming 2014-15 season.

McKnight, who graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University in the spring, picked Tennessee over numerous other offers when he decided to transfer for a fifth and final season of eligibility.

At the time, landing the 6-9 post man who had been a key contributor to FCGU's Sweet 16 run in 2013 seemed like a huge get for new head coach Donnie Tyndall and a Tennessee squad that badly needed to add some quality depth in the paint.

Tyndall and his staff did a seemingly masterful job of 'stopping the bleeding' in the spring by adding eight newcomers, including McKnight. A badly needed influx of bodies after a near mass exodus from current players and signees in the wake of Cuonzo Martin's departure from Cal.
