Linebackers look upgraded

When fall camp opened last week, observers expected to see a faster, more athletic Tennessee football team. After three days, if nothing else can be said with certainty, at least those expectations have been met. The Vols look faster and more athletic at nearly every spot on the field than at this same time a year ago.

Just about every position seems to have benefitted from the injection of talent, but no spot needed it more than an exceptionally thin linebacker corps that looks completely different than last year's unit.

Senior All-SEC performer A.J. Johnson is the lynchpin of the group but outside of that, the Vols have nothing in the way of proven performers.

Sophomore Jalen Reeves-Maybin converted to linebacker last fall and made big strides at the position in the spring, but the unit still consists of Johnson and a collection of young faces that have very little playing time on their resumes.
