Vols OL coach relishing teaching role

With every single starter from last year's front in an NFL training camp this month you might expect offensive line coach to be in the throes of a deep depression. Think again.

The Vols' veteran offensive line coach may be breaking in an entirely new starting group this fall with precious little experience but those challenges haven't led Mahoney to take a 'glass is half empty' view of his job.

If anything, he seems to have a different pep in his step this August, seemingly energized by the task at hand of molding a cohesive unit out of a group of inexperienced and disparate parts.

Mahoney admits that's true, and says his attitude has a great deal to do with quality of kids he's trying to coach up this fall.

"The teaching part of it this year is probably as much fun as I've ever had in coaching. These guys are hungry to prove a point and they're taking to coaching. They want to be worked hard every day," Mahoney said of the experience of getting a totally new group of linemen ready.
