Monday Night Football Notes

Anticipation is starting to run high on the practice field as the Vols went through their final 'dress-rehearsal' practice before full-contact work begins on Tuesday. Phillip Fulmer has been pleased with what he's seen in the first four days from his team, but the Vols' head coach is more than a little anxious to see his squad get down to the business of playing 'real football.'

"Tomorrow we get to play a little bit of football. I would say our work in shorts and shoulder pads has been a success. Tomorrow we get to see what we're going to be about, Fulmer said.

The last four days of work have been intense and physically demanding, especially given temperatures that have consistently hovered in the upper '90's. But there's no substitute for hitting, blocking and tackling, and until he sees his team in action, Fulmer noted that you're never really sure what you've got on your hands.

The head coach has had plenty of praise for the athleticism and speed he's seen some of the Vols' newcomers flash on the field so far, but he's also quick to point out that none of that means anything if you can't make a tackle or make someone miss.
