Bray to miss next 6 weeks

Tennessee senior quarterback Matt Simms is back in charge of the Vol offense. X-ray's revealed a broken right thumb for sophomore quarterback Tyler Bray. Bray will not need surgery, but he is expected to miss the next six weeks making the season finale against Kentucky the earliest Bray could return.

Bray suffered the injury in the fourth quarter when his thumb found the helmet of a blitzing Georgia defender, Christian Robinson. Bray played the next play but the pass floated high and away from Mychal Rivera then Bray checked himself out of the game.

When Bray was met by the trainers on the sideline, he was seen on television saying, "I broke my thumb."

Simms came on in relief to go 4 of 6 for 39 yards including a 4th down conversion to the Georgia one yard line and then scored the Vols only touchdown on a quarterback sneak two plays later.

As a starter a year ago, Simms led the Vols to a 2-6 record as he threw for 1,460 yards passing compleing 58 percent of his passes with 8 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. In his 8 starts, the Vols gave up 31 sacks including five last year at LSU, the Vols opponent on Saturday.

This season, Bray Bray has completed 116 of 176 pass attempts (65.9 pct.) this season for 1,579 yards, 14 touchdowns and two interceptions. He currently ranks first in the SEC in passing touchdowns (14), total offense (303.8), passing yards per game (315.8), and pass efficiency (165.2).
