Georgia lineman ready to announce on Friday
When Moultrie (Ga.) Coulquitt County offensive lineman Octavius Jackson left his Florida camp session back in June he felt like he performed well enough in front of the Florida coaching staff to at least be on their radar entering the fall - with the hopes of earning an offer as the season progressed.
Earlier this week, he found out that the wait was over.
"Coach Brian White called me and was like, 'Hey, I've got some good news for you.' He put coach Muschamp on the phone and they offered me a scholarship," explained the 6-foot-4, 285-pound lineman.
Jackson said that the Florida coaching staff was upfront and honest with him during the roughly six week wait in-between camping at UF and being offered this week.
"They told me they wanted to evaluate some things, evaluate me and basically they had to wait on some other players and they let me know what would happen."
After finding out about the Florida offer two days ago, Jackson preceded to quickly narrow his list and set a decision date.
"Yes, Sir, I just want to really get it over with, commit to somebody and look forward to my senior year of high school," explained Jackson. "I've got practice early in the [Friday] morning. After practice is over, around lunch I think, I'm going to commit."
Though he sounded as though his mind is already made up, Jackson said that there will be three finalists when he decides on Friday.
Two Southeastern Conference Eastern Division schools as well as a Big East program.
He then went on to talk about what he likes about the trio.
Vanderbilt: "That's my first offer. They've been recruiting me since day one. I love their whole attitude about how they want to do things there."
South Florida: "They're an up-and-coming school. Out of the schools, that is the one where I think I could play the earliest and show people what I'm all about. They are a program on the rise."
Florida: "It's Florida. That's all I need to say."
