Quick HiTs: Vols tackle the issue
With a rare practice inside the Neyland-Thompson Sports Center, Tennessee launched its final bye week of the 2013 season with a full-pads practice Tuesday afternoon.
The Vols worked extensively on fundamentals, and particularly on open-field tackling and working against ballcarriers in space. Additionally, the Vols logged a heavy volume of work in kickoff coverage with an animated Butch Jones barking orders, resetting drills and again taking his team back to the basics.
Tennessee appeared relatively healthy for the practice session, which is one of just three this week. The Vols next play host to Vanderbilt on Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. inside Neyland Stadium.
Antonio 'Tiny' Richardson essentially had a 'maintenance' day while Brian Randolph, A.J. Branisel and LaDarrell McNeil all donned green, non-contact jerseys.
The Vols got more extensive work from backup quarterback Nathan Peterman and also saw Riley Ferguson take another step forward with more authoritative throws and plants off that injured right leg.
Tennessee returns to the practice field Wednesday afternoon and also has some work scheduled Thursday. The Vols will send a number of assistant coaches out this week on the recruiting trail.
