2016 QB talks MVP, Vols

CONCORD, NC - For the quarterbacks, arm strength was clearly on display Sunday afternoon at the Rivals-Under Armour Camp as the Tarheel state stop was dealt temperatures in the 50's and wind gusts over 30 mph.

For class of 2016 signalcaller Austin Kendall it was a day to shine. Kendall, who has a Vol offer, left his hometown camp as the quarterback MVP.

"It means a lot," Kendall said of the award. "One of my goals has been to win MVP honors at other camps and combines. This is the first time I won one and I'm really glad and blessed to receive it.

"They really liked my accuracy and how I threw the ball hard in this wind as well."

With plenty of time to make a college choice, Kendall, who measured in at 6-2, 207 pounds, is in no rush. He currently lists NC State, Clemson, Wake Forest, West Virginia, Kentucky, UNC, UCLA, Auburn, Georgia and Tennessee as some of the schools under consideration.

As for the Vols, Kendall knows plenty about Tennessee and likes things on Rocky Top a lot.

"I have been up there maybe five times. I love it," Kendall said. "The coaching staff is great. I love the facilities and the school as well. I'm looking forward to getting back up there and establishing relationships with the coaches."

Kendall was in Knoxville March 1st for junior day and may return to see the Vols before spring practice is over. As his recruitment continues to take off, Kendall is not in any hurry but does have a plan for handling the process.

"It's kind of easy to manage right now because coaches can't call me," Kendall said. "I have to call them. So it's pretty easy to manage it all right now.

"I think I'm probably going to cut it to five at the end my junior season heading into the summer before my senior year."

Kendall threw for nearly 1,700 yards and 20 touchdowns last fall in a season that saw him miss time due to injury.
