Quick HiTs: Vols get some key pieces back

Working only in upper pads, Tennessee returned to Haslam Field and continued its preparations for Saturday's contest against Arkansas State --- with some familiar faces back on the field and some others missing.

Specialists Matt Darr, who boomed a 53-yard punt on his first try of the 2014 season against Utah State but suffered what appeared to be a nasty sprained ankle on the game's last punt, was back punting Wednesday afternoon while Aaron Medley was back on the field and did not appear to be in any protective wrap.

Michael Williams had fully shed his cast, though Rashaan Gaulden did not appear to be a participant again as he deals with the wrist/hand injury first reported by VolQuest.com before Tuesday afternoon's practice. Redshirt-sophomore wideout Jason Croom remained in a green, non-contact jersey but again is expected available for Saturday's game.

Head coach Butch Jones continued to challenge players very vocally over the practice-field speakers, chiding players that the weight room was calling their names and also challenging others to "earn the right" to participate in the 'Vol Walk.'

Tennessee did not appear to have the services on its offensive front of both Marcus Jackson on the afternoon, though it seems there may have been a class conflict. Austin Sanders worked at left guard in place of Jackson, and Brett Kendrick continued to work as the Vols' new left tackle after the season-ending ACL injury to Jacob Gilliam.

VolQuest.com has video highlights and many other items, including assistant coaches' reactions, coming immediately after practice. We'll post updates to the General's Quarters, as well as our Twitter handles: @John_BriceVQ; @Brent_Hubbs; @VolQuest_Rob; @VolQuest_Paul; @GrantRamey; @AustinPriceless.
