FRA duo teaming up, talk Vols

NASHVILLE — The coaches at Franklin Roads Academy already knew they had one talented underclassmen on the roster after 2019 wide receiver Lance Wilhoite had a strong freshman season.

That number grew to two during the offseason as 2019 athlete Adonis Otey moved from Murfreesboro to Nashville and will now play for FRA.

The duo are looking forward to not only teaming up with each other, but also working against one another over the next three years.

“I think it’s really nice. We are two young prospects and it will only help us that we work against each other,” Wilhoite said Sunday at the National Playmakers Academy camp.

Both prospects hold Tennessee offers and both worked out with Tennessee coaches earlier this summer at the Vols’ satellite camp at Tennessee State.

Wilhoite spent his time with wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni.

“It was really fun because when me and Azzanni were talking at first he wanted to see what I could do because they only time he had seen me was on film,” Wilhoite said. “He just told me to have fun so there wasn’t a lot of pressure.”

Otey worked out with veteran defensive backs coach Willie Martinez.

“It was fun. He was intense. He didn’t let us slack or anything. He made sure we went 100 percent and didn’t lose effort,” Otey said. “He doesn’t take stuff lightly and he works hard, but he loves his players.”

Otey has watched how Martinez has prepared Tennessee cornerback Cam Sutton for the next level and believes that’s what he’s looking for at the next level.

“Cam looks really good. He looks like he should be one of the best this year,” Otey said. “That’s really important because you want to go somewhere that really produces players well.”

Wilhoite said he likes Tennessee early on because of a number of reasons.

“I like Tennessee because it’s an SEC school and I want to play in the SEC. And, it’s closer to home and the coaches are really nice. They have me and my best interests in mind. They have nice facilities, too. And the team is pretty nice, too.”
