Johnson was with teammates Jon Poe, Chris Heath and they were at Cedric Houston’s apartment on Sunday night when officers responded to a gun shot fired at the residence. Officers controlled the scene where Brandon Johnson admitted to shooting the gun into the air.
Johnson was arrested and charged with felony reckless and endangerment and Chris Heath was charged with a misdemeanor of unlawful carrying of a firearm as the weapon is his.
An off-duty University of Tennessee police officer heard the shots and went to the scene where he called for back-up from the Knoxville Police Department.
There was no altercation of any kind with the officers nor was there any altercation that let to the firing of the gun.
"Our players are taught to be responsbible and accountable," Phillip Fulmer said. "These tw young men did not act responsibly and they will be held accountable."
Heath has been permanently dismissed from the team and Johnson is indefinitely suspended pending an investigation from the athletic department and the University's Student Conduct Office.
Fulmer said a decision on any further action would be made following the completed investigation.
Johnson has 29 tackles and two interceptions on the season for the Tennessee defense.
