Clearwater, Florida wide receiver Jacquez Jones has been flirting with other schools the last few weeks. New South Florida boss Charlie Strong made him a priority last weekend. This weekend was Tennessee's chance to shut the door on the longtime Tennessee pledge.
"It went amazing," Jones said. "It solidified everything for me. I'm looking to come in and make an impact. I'm strongly committed to the University of Tennessee. 110% committed. I was a really great trip."
Hosted by Marquez Callaway, Jones visited with all of the wide receivers like Tyler Byrd, Brandon Johnson and Latrell Williams. He also got to see other members of the 2017 recruiting class.
"I saw Shannon Reid and Trey Smith," Jones said. "Those guys are very energetic guys. They are amazing players and we are looking to make an impact. It was amazing to touch base with he guys I'm going to be with with next three or four years."
The visit to South Florida last weekend, put several Vol fans on edge. Strong has a very good reputation of being able to recruit. Jones said not to make much of that trip or the one he will take next weekend.
"I was just taking the visit because my friend was and he needed someone to go along," Jones said. "That's the only reason I took it. I'm going to take the UCF (Central Florida) visit next weekend because I owe it to myself. Nothing is going to change with Tennessee, but I'm going to take it."
The highlight of the trip was just the chance to talk to the players and especially the coaching staff.
"It was amazing to talk to them," Jones said. "I talk to coach Jones most of the time, but also coach Azzanni and Larry Scott. I'm really familiar with those guys and that was fun. They told me to come in prepared and ready to compete. Just take advantage of the resources."
Rivals.com ranks Jones as a 3-star wide receiver in the class of 2017.
