Longtime Vol commit Crosby enjoys final recruiting trip to Rocky Top

Defensive tackle Eric Crosby committed to Tennessee on April 22nd last year. This weekend, Crosby was in Knoxville for his official visit.

There was little new for the 6-2, 330 pound defensive tackle to learn, but he continues to be impressed with his school of choice

“How all the coaches became like a family even more then they were on regular visits,” Crosby said of what impressed him. “The coaches showed how much they really care about each individual. That's mostly what stuck out to me.

“Trey said he hasn't even been there a week yet and he loves it. They said it's a great place to be and they have so much fun there.”

Crosby also got to put a name with a face for many committed players and recruits that he has routinely been speaking with.

“We have a group chat with all of them in there where we all talk. Most of them I already knew,” Crosby said of the rest of this weekends visitors. “I did quite a bit of recruiting. Tried to work on some of the defensive linemen. Trying to stack the position up a little more.”

Tennessee's message to Crosby was clear it was one of thanks and appreciation.

“They told me that I was the face of the 2017 recruiting class,” Crosby said. “I was the one that started it all by committing and getting out of my homestate. They let me know they have great confidence in my coming in and competing for a starting spot.”

To compete for that starting spot, Tennessee wants Crosby to drop 25-30 pounds and this weekend Crosby got a good feel for how they will use him in the trenches.

“We did some film study,” Crosby said. “I watched some film with coach Shoop and some film with coach Strip showing me some techniques that I didn't even know about. It's always good to learn something new.”

Despite his commitment of nearly 9 months ago, Crosby's phone continues to ring. Louisville, Utah and Virginia Tech are all pushing for an official visit.

Crosby doesn't have anything planned and isn't expecting to make a meaningful trip anywhere at this point.

“The only way that it just wouldn't a fun trip is if something happens at Tennessee,” Crosby said. “Like all the coaching staff leave. That's the only way something would happen.”
