Jashaun Corbin left Rocky Top last weekend with a good feeling about his recruitment.
In his heart, he knew he wanted to be a Vol. After a several days of contemplation and discussion with his family, he quietly made a decision and hatched another trip up back up north.
"We had brought up coming to see the spring game," Corbin told Volquest. "This week, we actually made it final to come up here."
The Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy (Fla.) standout woke up Friday morning with a calm demeanor, but internally, Corbin was very excited to make his decision official. This afternoon, he left for the airport and made the call.
"I called coach (Robert Gillespie) and FaceTime'd him before I got on my plane and told him I was committing. He made me repeat it for the whole staff to hear. They were doing nothing but yelling and jumping around," Corbin said.
"Coach (Butch) Jones was extremely happy. He told me, ‘When you get here I just want to hug you. I love you.' ... Then when I got up here, I gave them all a big hug. It was a good feeling."
While Florida State, Florida and others pushed hard for Corbin, ultimately, the 4-star tailback always felt like Tennessee was the best landing spot. He resisted the urge of committing sooner several times, but in the end, he couldn't shake that feeling.
"It was a no brainer. ... It’s always been nothing but positive vibes when I go up here. It was a tough choice, but at the end of the day I feel like it was the right choice," he said.
"I’ve always been thinking about it. It was always my top choice, but earlier on this week, I just thought, I think I need to make it official."
Corbin jumped on board because he sees the ability to play right away at Tennessee. The Vols have a backfield with very little proven talent, and Tennessee's coaches have done an excellent job selling him on fulfilling a very similar role as future NFL draft pick Alvin Kamara the last two seasons.
"The way they can use me," Corbin quickly answered why Tennessee was the perfect fit. "Just like how they used Alvin Kamara. The same type of player. They showed me more than any other school how much they wanted me. I have a great relationship with all the coaches. They made me feel wanted and I felt like a priority to them. It was a no brainer."
As the fifth commit in Tennessee's 2018 class, Corbin will now move from recruit to recruiter. He has plans on working on all the talent in town for the Orange & White Game this weekend, especially Cal quarterback commit Adrian Martinez.
"There are some guys here that I've talked to that are priorities too," Corbin explained, "that can help out the team and program. It's now time for me to start recruiting and help the coaches. I met Adrian Martinez today, so I'll start working on him. There are plenty of guys for me to talk too.
“It’s good to be able to start recruiting for the team, get more guys. I’m going to put the full-court press on (Martinez).”
In the end, Corbin is stoked about becoming a Tennessee commit. In between watching the spring game and hanging out with fellow prospects, the tailback expects to field plenty of attention from fans who are super excited bout their newest verbal pledge.
"I just expect a lot of love," Corbin said. "My phone is going crazy. The coaches have already told me that tomorrow. I'll shake a lot of hands and see people that I don't know, but they will know me. I'm ready for that. It's the stuff I like. Just taking pictures and meeting new people."
