Quick HiTs: Jones commands attention

Preparing mostly for a weekend off, Tennessee's football team logged its third practice of the week --- and arguably its hottest of all camp --- as an impassioned Butch Jones challenged his players' mentality and approach.
Bringing practice to a complete stop nearly 30 minutes into drills, Jones gathered his team in two lines down the hashes on Haslam Field, offense near the complex and defense closest to Lindsey Nelson Stadium, and railed about the Vols' mental mistakes on a sweltering day that saw temperatures crowd 90, with a heat index in the lower to middle-90s.

The Vols were working a variety of late-game situations in virtually all facets of the game when consecutive penalties finally became too much for Jones to bear, who preaches attention to detail, mental discipline and saw his first-ever Tennessee team a year ago among the nation's least-penalized.
Justin Worley had a pair of dazzling throws that were highly successful for different reasons. The first was a sideline hook-up with Marquez North that demonstrated extremely good timing. Later, Worley hooked up with Von Pearson, who slipped behind the secondary and scored a long touchdown. Coleman Thomas got continued first-team work at right tackle some this afternoon, and Jacob Gilliam was manning the left tackle spot.
The Vols were missing a few key members of offense, and we'll provide some more details on those players after Jones addresses the media.
Derek Barnett continues to work in a starting role at defensive end, and both Chris Weatherd and Dimarya Mixon got some first-team burn as well.
On kickoff coverage, Todd Kelly Jr., Dillon Bates, Elliot Berry, Michael Williams, Jalen Reeves-Maybin, Justin Coleman, LaDarrell McNeil, A.J. Johnson, Devaun Swafford and Cam Sutton were the coverage players while George Bullock was the kicker.
Tennessee does not have practices schedule either day this weekend, though the Vols will reconvene as a team Sunday night for meetings in the one-week countdown to kickoff.
