Rick Barnes has made another tweak to his coaching staff with Tennessee basketball.
He has hired Scott Daughtry as the Director of Strategy.
UT Athletics describes this role as such:
"Daughtry will have numerous duties related to roster management, on which he will work closely with director of player personnel/recruiting coordinator Lucas Campbell. He will continue to develop statistical models to predict player success and value, as well as monitor databases, deliver recruiting information to the coaching staff and organize qualitative evaluations. Daughtry will also generate performance analytics, player development analysis and analytical game strategy evaluations for the current team."

Daughtry began his tenure with Tennessee in 2021 as an undergraduate manager. The following April, he was promoted to head manager. He stayed in that role through December of 2023.
After earning his degree, he stayed on staff as a graduate assistant.
As a graduate assistant, Daughtry has created and managed the team's analytic sites and web apps. He also produced 'basketball performance analytics' for the use of the staff and worked alongside director of sports performance Garrett Medenwald.
"I'm grateful to Coach Barnes for giving me this incredible opportunity," Daughtry said. "It has been an honor to learn from him and the rest of the staff over the past four years. I am thrilled to continue to grow here at a place that means so much to me. I will do everything I can to help further elevate the Tennessee basketball program, as we continue to lead the way in the new world of college athletics."
Along with his experience at UT, Daughtry has also served as an intern with the NBA's Indiana Pacers during the summer of 2023. He helped with NBA draft, free agency and NBA summer league duties. In this time, he manufactured a model to 'predict a college player's defensive skill level in the NBA using automated machine learning predictive modeling methods.'
In the summer of 2022, he interned with the NBA's Atlanta Hawks for the summer league. There, he created a model that 'utilized revenue statistics to predict attendance and net profit at College Park Skyhawks' games.'
He is from Anderson, South Carolina and has an undergraduate degree in business analytics from UT. He is currently pursuing a Masters of Science in Business Analytics / MBA dual program at the university.
