Tennessee basketball is reportedly looking to add a pair of games against Illinois to its upcoming schedules.

According to a report from Jon Rothstein, the Vols and Illini are 'finalizing an agreement' to play at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on Dec. 6 of presumably the upcoming season.

As a response, Tennessee would meet Illinois at the United Center in Chicago, the home of the NBA's Bulls, at an undecided future date.

This comes after Rick Barnes scheduled a home-and-home with Brad Underwood's squad the past two seasons.

In the 2024-25 campaign, it was a nail-biter that took place at Illinois. Tennessee edged the Illini 66-64 off of heroics from Jordan Gainey. Capped off by a buzzer-beater at the rim to win the game, Gainey dropped 23 points in 34 minutes. He shot 6-for-14 from the field, 3-for-6 from range and 8-for-9 from the line.

Chaz Lanier also chipped in 17 points.

In the 2023-24 year, Tennessee hosted Illinois in Knoxville. The Vols managed an 86-79 win, despite trailing by a pair at the half.

Tennessee was led by Dalton Knecht who dropped 21 points in the game on 7-for-14 shooting from the field. Jonas Aidoo, Josiah-Jordan James, Santiago Vescovi and Zakai Zeigler all also finished in double figures as starters.

The Vols had to deal with 22 points from both Terrance Shannon Jr. and Quincy Guerrier for the Illini.

Before the traded home games, Tennessee and Illinois most recently met back in January of 1988. On the Illini's home court, the Vols fell 103-79. This was the only loss of the series between the schools Tennessee has taken.

The Vols won at home in 1985 by the score of 54-51. In 1967, Tennessee won 66-42 at home.

Tennessee also has a game against Gardner-Webb reportedly scheduled by Jon Rothstein. The Vols will play that game on Dec. 21, 2026.
