The right fit makes Labruzza a Vol

Tennessee landed its second defensive commitment of the day Saturday when Louisiana defensive back Cheyenne Labruzza chose the Vols over LSU, Texas A&M and several other offers.

The 6-foot, 180-pound versatile defender visited Tennessee several weeks ago and on his return visit to Rocky Top he knew Knoxville was the best spot for him.

“My plan was to come up for the game and see the atmosphere and I told myself if I liked it I would commit,” Labruzza said. The atmosphere was great and it was the place for me.”

Why Tennessee for Labruzza?

“It just felt like the best fit and opportunity for me,” Labruzza said. “The coaching staff is great and I really like coach (Willie) Martinez. And I have a good connection with coach (Bob) Shoop and coach (Butch) Jones and this is just the best place for me.

“I mesh great with the coaches and I can see myself playing here and being successful with the coaches.”

The reason the Tennessee staff believes Labruzza is the right fit for the Vols is because of his ability to play different roles.

“They see me as a special teams guy and they are recruiting me to play corner, safety and nickel,” Labruzza said. “They said I have a lot of versatility and I can come in and play different positions.

“And I feel like I can come in and compete. I see what Cam Sutton and Todd Kell Jr are doing and I can learn from them, but they will be leaving soon so I will have a chance to play.”

Labruzza took notice of freshman Marquill Osborne’s day and liked the fact that he saw as much action as he did.

“It just confirms what the are saying to me about playing time,” Labruzza said. “He’s an early enrollee. and he’s supposed to be in high school but he’s out there making plays. It just confirms that if you are good enough that you will get an opportunity.”
