Vols continue trend in snagging Florida wide receiver

Tennessee picked up where it left off in 2016 with Florida targets Friday when the Vols landed Clearwater, Fla., wideout Jacquez Jones.

After Tennessee landed five Sunshine State prospects in the class of 2016 assistant coaches Larry Scott and Zach Azzanni teamed up to gain the commitment of Jones.

“Coach Scott recruited me when he saw me playing and offered me and then he started coming after me crazy,” Jones said. “Then coach Z and I kicked it off and we had a lot in common. And I think I could be successful under him.”

The 5-foot-11, 165-pound receiver visited the Vols earlier this year and that was enough to keep Tennessee on his mind until he pulled the trigger on Friday.

“What made it seem like the place for me is that coach (Butch) Jones gave me a hug and was really excited I was there,” Jones said. “I liked it a lot. I have high expectations when I visit schools and they met the vibe that I wanted.”

Jones added he felt like the fit was all around, from academics to his positions coach to the team.

“I liked what coach Z has going on up there,” Jones said. “I like what they are doing with the school and with their graduation rate. I really like the psychology school, too.

“The SEC is the best and I want to go against the best and Tennessee gives me that chance. And I really liked the team up there. They had a good vibe.”

A three-star prospect, Jones picked the Vols over offers from Michigan and Miami among others.
